Persimmon & Apple Spice Smoothie
Now that it’s October, I wanted to make a few tasty, fall-flavored treats. Here in Israel, we don’t have a “fall” and we definitely don’t have anything pumpkin spice, so I tend to get a little homesick around this time of year.
I miss having to turn over my closet and start wearing cozy sweaters and boots. I miss bakeries selling pumpkin scones and spiced apple pie. And I especially miss the golden orange hues that takeover the country.
I’ve stocked up on fall décor and scented candles, but making a few spiced treats really helps to ease that longing for fall.
I chose to use persimmons for a few reasons: not only are they in season, but they also have this beautiful caramel-like flavor that pairs so well with pumpkin spice. They are also creamy and of course… orange!
The persimmons can be a bit too creamy on their own, so the apples really smooth out the texture. Plus, the apples add additional hints of fall. The combination of the two is so delightful.
Lastly, since we don’t have pumpkin spice here in Israel, I made my own combination for this smoothie. If you have pumpkin spice in your pantry, feel free to use that instead (I’d start with a half a teaspoon). This spice combination works for me, it’s not overpowering but enough to remind me that Halloween and Thanksgiving are on their way!

Ingredients
2 persimmons
1 apple (something a little tart) – chopped into medium-sized pieces
1 date or a teaspoon of silan
¼ teaspoon of cinnamon
¼ teaspoon of ground ginger
1/8 scant teaspoon ground cloves
1/8 scant teaspoon ground allspice
1/8 scant teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 cup of water
The Night Before
Peel and chop the persimmon into medium-sized pieces and place in a container in the freezer.
In the Morning
Combine all of the ingredients in your blender and blend until smooth.
