My Morning Routine
I am not a morning person; I’ve always struggled when I’ve had to wake up early. I much prefer to stay up late and it’s so hard to force myself to get in bed! After watching a few inspiring youtube videos and reading The Miracle Morning, I’ve been trying to get into a better morning routine.
If I have a routine that I enjoy and can look forward to, it should be easier right?
Plus, I feel so satisfied and accomplished when I’m productive in the morning!
I consider my morning routine a work in progress.
I’m taking baby steps; warming up to the idea of waking up early.
So here it is; my current morning routine:
– 7:00 –
Wake up (sort of, half-way) and stumble to the kitchen. I quickly make a smoothie (pre-prepped) and brew some coffee in my bialetti. I don’t drink either now, but I split each with my husband who is (at this point) rushing out the door to work.
– 7:20 –
I brush my teeth and scrape my tongue. I do this before I drink my morning water so my mouth is so fresh and so clean!
– 7:25 –
Poor a large glass jug of water (4 cups worth) and squeeze a ½ of a lemon and sprinkle in a bit of Himalayan pink salt.
The salt helps the water bind to my cells so that I can actually absorb it.
I use the jar to track my water intake for the day – I know if I drink 2 full jars I’ve gotten my 8 cups. I drink about ½ of the first jar to start.
– 7:30 –
Next I head to my special “relaxation corner” to do ten minutes of meditation. I’ve found that creating that little space for myself really helps to set the mood… to meditate.
I’m a beginner, and I’m really trying to incorporate meditation into my day. Currently I’m using headspace, the beginner program. You can start with 3, 5 or 10 minutes a day. I’ve worked my way up to 10, because it’s actually not that long!
– 7:45 –
To wake up my body, I do about five sun salutations. Just getting my body moving and stretching really helps to make me feel strong enough to take on the day!
I would love to workout in the morning, but I feel like my muscles just don’t work properly before a cup of coffee. Baby steps; remember?
– 8:00 –
Smoothie time! I head back to the kitchen and grab my smoothie from the fridge.
As I drink, I’ll do my morning skin care routine.
This varies depending on my day; since I work from home, I may not do a full face of makeup. I’ll keep it simple, vitamin C serum, sunscreen, and sometimes a little bit of powder.
– 8:20 –
Finally, coffee. I’ll warm up my cup of coffee and maybe make some breakfast. Usually it’s toast or oatmeal with some sort of fruit or veg. Then I get to work!
That’s it, my work-in-progress morning routine.
How about you? Are you an early bird? Any tips for a stubborn night owl?
